Hutchison may be searching for a partner in Francedate: April 18, 2002 Hutchison Whampoa said on Thursday it is still searching for a partner for a 3G mobile venture in France with less than a month to go before the deadline to bid for licences. "Our position always has been that we want to have a 3G partner in France which has local expertise," a Hutchison spokesperson said. However, some local French papers said Hutchison had given up hopes on bidding for a 3G licence in the country after failing to find a local partner. But the Hutchison spokesperson said no such decision has been made and are still searching for a partner and we will make a decision on whether to bid for a licence or not before the May 16 deadline. Yesterday, Bouygues Telecom said it would bid for a 3G French mobile telephone licence since conditions for their purchase had changed. French licenses for UMTS networks have now been extended from 15 to 20 years, and their price slashed from 4.9 billion euros to 619 million plus one percent of operators’ revenues.
