Sage Inc scouts for strategic acquisitions, to focus on 3Gdate: 12th March 2001, source by: Sage Inc, the US-based high-end IC design outfit for the display and video image processing segment, is all set to scout for strategic acquisitions as part of its thrust to build chip capabilities in the wireless and multimedia on 3G segment. As part of its strategy to tap new emerging segments especially 3G-related multimedia and display applications, the company was planning to initially pick up equity in start-ups with relevant wireless chip capabilities, according to the company's president and CEO Chandra Shekar Reddy. CEO Reddy said Sage was currently in talks with companies both overseas and in India. "We will initially invest the seed money in the companies and work with them closely on developing chipsets for the wireless multimedia segment," he said. While the size of the kitty has not been finalised, the company had reserves of close to $40 million (raised through its IPO) which would be used for strategic acquisitions, he added. ``Sage specialises in building single chip solutions. Our extensive focus is on chips that provide seamless bridging of signals by matching any signal source to the display --ie, system on a chip, mixed signal IC's -- both in the Sage range as well as the Faroudja line of chipsets. The Sage chipsets include specific IC's for analog interface, dual interface, and intermediate interfaces.
